A Beginners Guide to Class Actions in Australia

This paper provides a ‘beginners guide’ to class action procedures in Australia, with a focus on recent developments relating to financial lines (including class actions brought by shareholders or holders of other securities or by investors in various financial products).  The Australian law concerning class actions is also reviewed with a focus on part IVA of the Federal Court of Australia Act 1976) (Cth).  In addition, issues relating to costs and litigation funding are also discussed.
