Modern Slavery Statement

YPOL Pty Ltd trading as YPOL Lawyers ACN 109 710 698 (YPOL) is a law firm based in Sydney, Australia.

We have chosen to make a voluntary statement and to take action to address modern slavery risks in our supply chains and operations. This is YPOL’s Modern Slavery Statement for 2022/2023.

Our operations

Our firm provides legal advice to clients in Australia and abroad in relation to legal disputes which occur within Australia. Our clients are predominantly insurers. We have assessed the risk of modern slavery within our own operations as low.

Risk within our supply chains

As a single office law firm, we procure all goods and services from local Australian suppliers, and on that basis have assessed the risk of modern slavery within our supply chains as lower than many other business sectors.

We nevertheless recognise the risk of modern slavery in our supply chains as follows.

  1. We use electronic software and computer hardware. The electronics industry is recognised as a high-risk industry for modern slavery and employee mistreatment.
  2. Facilities management. Our offices are cleaned and serviced by a workforce which appears to be dominated by migrant and temporary workers, a demographic vulnerable to exploitation in terms of excessive hours and underpayment.

Policies and procedures

We take active measures to ensure that those from whom we purchase goods and services share our commitment to human rights and ethical behaviour. Thus, we undertake appropriate due diligence, negotiate fairly and consider the integrity of all our key suppliers. We have thus reviewed the annual Modern Slavery Statements for suppliers of IT hardware and software, and our building services provider – and will continue to do so on an annual basis.

We are committed to working with suppliers who conduct themselves according to the ethical, professional and legal standards which we follow. We have clear internal policies and grievance procedures, which all our staff are required to acknowledge upon accepting a position at the firm. These are reviewed annually and recirculated to all staff.
We have no tolerance for modern slavery, human rights violations, fraudulent or exploitive behaviour of any kind.
